Go nuts today--no foolin'!

Happy April 1st!

Go (Brazil) nuts

Every month, on the first of the month, we have 4 Brazil nuts. Why? Because it gives us all the selenium we need for the MONTH. (See the study here.)

T. Colin Campbell's nutritional biochemistry work on how our body uses food in natural form through thousands and thousands of metabolic reactions versus supplementation should cause us all to rethink the supplements we consume. In his book Whole, he explains the science behind the evidence that consuming a whole food, plant-based diet is the healthiest way to eat.

So consider this your friendly reminder to enjoy 4 Brazil nuts today...and your vitamin B12 if you haven't taken it yet (yes, that's a supplement we take, but only because we don't get enough microbes on our sanitized food anymore...animal products contain it because animals are eating those microbes found in the dirt, feces, and water. Thankfully, we don't have to).

Need a listen?

A podcast I recently did with Corinna Bellizzi of Orlo Nutrition: Nutrition Without Compromise just dropped today. I haven't listened to it yet, but I thought I'd share it with you. We talk about Omega 3's, and I explain why I don't take supplements (other than B12). I used to take supplements, and contributed to the almost 28 Billion dollar supplement industry before learning the science behind how our bodies utilize nutrients in their whole package (as in whole fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and seeds) as opposed to nutrients that have been singled out to be taken in high doses (like, say, vitamin C or vitamin E). Give it a listen if you'd like.

This coming Saturday is the Santa Cruz VegFest!

I've got a booth and I will be speaking at 11:30am--come hear how you can help your kids eat healthier.

I hope you enjoy a fantastic start to both April, and your week. Remember to keep it HAPPY*!
