Come on, spring! 🌱

Published about 2 months ago • 1 min read

Hello friends!

I'm hoping any day now these rainy days will give way to sunny, flower-filled spring days. How about you? Are you ready for winter to be over?

If you've caught a spring cold that is going around (or are trying your best to avoid one), try this recipe you can make in 5 minutes:

Immune Tea

Place all items in a Vitamix or high speed blender

1 and 1/2 oranges (with peel)

1 lemon (with peel)

1 lime (with peel)

1 Serrano pepper

2 TBSP minced garlic

1 inch turmeric root

4 inches ginger root

1/2 C fresh or frozen cranberries

1 C water

a dash of black pepper

Blend until you reach a smoothie-like consistency. Pour into an empty ice cube tray and freeze, then remove individual cubes and store in the freezer in a container or ziplock bag. Whenever you feel like you're on the verge of catching something, pop one in a mug, add boiling water, stir and sip.

Remember when Forks Over Knives selected For Fork's Sake as one of their 'Recommended Reading: Our Favorite Plant-Based Books of 2022'? (It was a very proud moment!) Ann and Jane Esselstyn's book, Be A Plant-Based Woman Warrior was also on that list. If you don't know them, they are the wife and daughter of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease (you may have seen him in the documentary Forks Over Knives).

The Esselstyn family foundation (check out the talk I did for them here) offers free classes, and Monday, March 18th, 5-6pmPST you can attend one in which Ann and Jane will do a cooking demo and talk about cooking to prevent and reverse heart disease. Los Gatos Plant Based Advocates is bringing this to anyone who is interested.

I'll see you online March 18th at this event, and if you're local, remember to mark April 6th on your calendar for the Santa Cruz VegFest!

Have a great week friends, and for fork's sake, keep it HAPPY*!

Sincerely,

Rachael

Hello, friends! Just wanted to drop a note to say what fun it was to be a part of Santa Cruz VegFest this past weekend! Were you one of the thousands who attended? From food to clothing, information on animal sanctuaries and climate, musicians, comedians and speakers...there was so much to take in! If you weren't able to make it this year, I highly recommend going or volunteering next year. It was a great event. I enjoyed speaking on helping kids eat healthier I loved meeting so many...

Happy April 1st! Go (Brazil) nuts Every month, on the first of the month, we have 4 Brazil nuts. Why? Because it gives us all the selenium we need for the MONTH. (See the study here.) T. Colin Campbell's nutritional biochemistry work on how our body uses food in natural form through thousands and thousands of metabolic reactions versus supplementation should cause us all to rethink the supplements we consume. In his book Whole, he explains the science behind the evidence that consuming a...
