Did I meet you at VegFest?

Hello, friends!

Just wanted to drop a note to say what fun it was to be a part of Santa Cruz VegFest this past weekend! Were you one of the thousands who attended? From food to clothing, information on animal sanctuaries and climate, musicians, comedians and speakers...there was so much to take in! If you weren't able to make it this year, I highly recommend going or volunteering next year. It was a great event.

I loved meeting so many people--some who have been vegan or whole food, plant-based for decades and some who were coming to learn how to start the transition. There really was something for everyone.

Did you know per the CDC, 90% of American adults are not eating enough fruits or vegetables?

And:

  • 1 in 3 American kids eat a piece of fruit each day
  • 50% of American children under the age of 5 don't eat a single vegetable daily
  • 57% of kids drink a sugary drink each and every day

Is it any wonder obesity and diabetes are epidemics in our country? We need to do better. And the good news is we CAN do better, and it's not as hard as many people think! www.forforkssakebook.com can help.

If you're not from the Bay Area in California and you've attended other Veg Fest's, drop me an email-- I'd love to hear where the other good ones are!

Corinna Bellizzi from Nutrition Without Compromise interviewed me on her podcast (here's the link again--listen to hear us talk about Omega 3's and 6's and what we think about supplementation). And here is the blog they published if you're interested or if you know someone who is interested in perhaps gaining health or fighting disease through nutrition.

And CanvasRebel did an interview and write up for their publication if you want to check that out. If your place of business, or professional organization, church, club or school is looking for someone to introduce the idea of eating better for health, I'd love to talk to them. For fork's sake, let's keep spreading the word and better health for all!

If you're in the Bay Area (or looking for a reason to visit), head on over to Banter Bookshop in Fremont next Tuesday, April 16th where I'll be speaking from 7-8pm. Come early for dinner if you want to try out RAW next door--an entirely plant-based restaurant with delicious options.

Hope to see you there!

Keep it HAPPY*, friends!

Rachael

Happy April 1st! Go (Brazil) nuts Every month, on the first of the month, we have 4 Brazil nuts. Why? Because it gives us all the selenium we need for the MONTH. (See the study here.) T. Colin Campbell's nutritional biochemistry work on how our body uses food in natural form through thousands and thousands of metabolic reactions versus supplementation should cause us all to rethink the supplements we consume. In his book Whole, he explains the science behind the evidence that consuming a...
